The proposal finds space among the gentle hills of Cognac, on the lush bends of the Charente in Vibrac. The castle ruins, signs of a noble history of the town, become a fundament for the project. The composition of modules interlaps with the traces of the building, permitting the discovery of the history and the territory.
Opening towards the landscape and the ruins, floating on the Charente, modules compose a diffuse hotel that permits to dive in the natural environment of the mosaic of islands and bridges.
The structural frame of this small treehouse module hosts the vegetation in a patio open on the horizon in a vertical and horizontal direction.
In the vertical direction, linking the relationship between earth and sky, this space welcomes the entrance, encompassing a tree that grows inside the structure, distancing service areas from the bedroom.
Horizontally, the module opens to welcome the landscape of vegetation and monumental ruins. The room and service areas are hence separated by an open space that hosts vegetation, transforming the link between inside and outside in a continuous game of references. This ambiguous space offers visitors an experience of total immersion in nature and territory.
The volume rests on a tubular steel structure that allows maximum flexibility to rest on the ground adapting to slopes and soils. In addition to a great apparent lightness, this systems permits the integration with the vegetation.
The module, completely built of wood, consists of a bedroom and a toilet, with a small space for luggage. Spaces are connected by a glass corridor and an open walkway surrounding the patio.
The room opens in the direction of the landscape with a jutting glazed wall, for an immersive experience, in the comfort of a protected environment.
Larger sliding panels allow the complete closure of the module to make it “dormant”, securely waiting for the next guest.
